Continued and Renewed Google SERP Volatility: When Will the Next Core Algorithm Update Drop?

The SERP Volatility indexes have been quite heated since early July. Reviewing the SEMRush Sensor, volatility has been high for almost a month and very high for much of the last seven days.

The sensors started to heat up over the last ten days, as shown in the screenshot below from SEMRush.

As of this writing, no new confirmed algorithm update has been announced by Google. It has been over 40 days since the last confirmed algorithm update from Google, with the June 2024 Spam Update releasing on June 20th and taking eight days to roll out, finishing on June 27th.

It’s been over 110 days since the last Broad Core Google Algorithm Update, with the longest Core Update from Google ever - being the March 2024 Core Update, which went from March 5, 2024, to April 19th.

Needless to say, I think we are well overdue for a Core Update. Many sites still have not recovered from the massive changes in the fall of 2023, and significant quality problems still exist on the SERP after the March Core Update. And the Site Reputation Abuse is still done through manual actions, and is not done algorithmically, yet?

Google was quoted as saying the next Core Update was “coming soon,” but as of this writing, I have not seen anything confirmed. I certainly thought with the volatility ramping up last week, we would have seen an announcement and am shocked we have not seen anything this week. Google typically doesn’t launch algorithm updates late in the day or on Fridays before the weekend, but who knows.

Maybe next week? Is Google still testing and tweaking the next Core Update?
